The romance of two of cultures: Art by Aleksandra Kalisz

In new art by Aleksandra Kalisz graceful gestures are mixed with intricate patterns from the Middle East. Her Act of Pattern series is inspired by a year long residency in Spain. These works allow us to travel to different parts of the world and makes us appreciate the mysteries, elegance and beauty of histories beyond the familiar. The figures are radiant and the patterns poetic; this combination softly steeps into your dreams. These images mirror how we crave to seek people and narratives that are different from ours. Her work is also timely as it echoes the recent influx of refugees in Europe. Art makes us bond with each other and sets us on a renewed path. In her own words:

“The south of Spain is rich in culture where at some point Catholic, Islamic and Jewish people were living together. Their traditions mixed and created a style called ‘Mudéjar’. Seeing extraordinary architecture inspired me to use it in my art in a more modern way, merging female nudes from Europe with the more modest art and design from the Middle East. I want my audience to open to foreign cultures through art.” (more…)
